Terrorist Attack
(This is a look from a biblical perspective.
I am not saying that the attacks were definitly an act of God's judgement,
but we cannot rule that out.)

What may have been the cause of this:

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. (Ps. 14:1a)

The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. (Ps. 9:17)

Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. (Prov. 16:18)

Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people. (Prov 14:34)

Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endureth continually.
The tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.
Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.
God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away,
and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.
The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him: (Ps. 52:1-6)

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

Trusting in military (Pentagon):

There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.
An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength. (Ps. 33:12,16,170

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. (Ps. 20:7)

It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.
It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes. (Ps. 118:8,9)

Trusting in riches (World Trade Center):

Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.

As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.
He that trusteth in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall flourish as a branch. (Prov 11:4,19,28)

Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength;
but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness. (Ps. 52:7)

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. (Ps. 121:1,2)

Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth. (Ps. 124:8)

Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways. (Ps. 128:1)

What we should do:
This is a definite, even if the attacks weren't the judgement of God.

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves,
and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways;
then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (2 Chr. 7:14)

Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand:
repent ye, and believe the gospel. (Mark 1:14b,15)

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out,
when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord. (Acts 3:19)

And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled:
for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. (Matt 24:6)

Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee. (Prov 20:22)

Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath:
for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. (Rom 12:19)

Every purpose is established by counsel; and with good advice make war. (Prov 20:18)
