For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth. . .(Rom 1:16a)This verse brings up an important point. To be ashamed of Christ's words is to be ashamed of Christ. Christ said "If ye continue in my words, then are ye my disciples indeed" (Jn 8:31)And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me. Matt. 11:6
O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me. (Ps. 25:2)
O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in thee. (Ps. 25:20)
For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. (Rom 10:11
Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. (1 Pet 4:16)
Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels. Mark 8:38Jesus Christ is the Word of God made into flesh (Jn 1:14). To be ashamed of the Word of God is to be ashamed of Christ. To be ashamed of Christ is to be ashamed of His Words. These two go hand in hand. And if you are ashamed of Christ, HE WILL BE ASHAMED OF YOU. And what does this mean?
shame n. A painful sensation excited by guilt, disgrace, ect. - reproach, disgrace. - WebstersJust prior to this, Jesus had declared "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it" (Mark 8:35). If you seek to save your life by being ashamed of Christ, YOU SHALL LOSE IT. This is harsh, but look at the blessings awaiting you if you are not ashamed:
5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
5:11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
5:12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Matthew 5:10-1218 The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.
19 They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied. Psalms 37:18, 1922 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets. Luke 6:22, 23
For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. (Rom 10:11)20 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.
21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. (Phil 1:20, 21)
